Prepare for a Spring and Summer of retro style romance, as florals are paired with 1970′s bohemian jumpsuits, and antique lace is contrasted against luxurious quilted biker jackets. Sweet boho, with a hint of attitude, is to be expected this coming season, so don’t be left in the dark for too long this winter and read our hottest SS11 trend report. -Isabella Stockwell

Floral Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits were enormously popular in the early seventies, so it’s no surprise that with a revamp of 1970′s fashion, grows a more up-to-date love for floral jumpsuits. The two main SS11 trends, 1970s glamour and 1970s boho, are encapsulated into one outfit with the jumpsuit in the sunnier half of the year. As the flowers blossom, so do our Spring wardrobes, and they certainly will with a flower-embellished jumpsuit, which embraces a touch of femininity by borrowing from Summers floral trend. Floral jumpsuits were seen all over the runway, from micro-flowers at DKNY to long-sleeved, painting-esque jumpsuits at Mother of Pearl. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Rebecca Taylor showcased a more casual appeal by creating the look in muted tones, but infused a hint of glamour by topping off the look with a pair of heels. Dusky pinks and champagne tones are perfect for a summer afternoon, while emerald greens and electric blues would provide a stunning alternative for evening glamour.

Biker Jackets
This Spring/Summer 11 promises that the biker trend will break-through as a major must-have, there is so much faith in this, in fact, that Burberry names their collection the ‘Heritage Biker’. Biker jackets have seen an elegant revamp on the runway, with Burberry making biker jackets with zipped sleeves the detail that separates the best from the rest. They also embraced the use of quilted leather to add a certain elegance to the look. Their two-toned jacket in beige and black is somewhat of a highlight, making the biker jacket such a statement piece you won’t want to take it off when you get inside. The biker jacket was also seen on Balmain’s catwalk, infusing the trend with a military essence. Paired with delicate florals or lace, this trend can really give the life back to any outfit.

Sheer Maxi Skirts
This trend certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted or for those who do not like to stand out for the crowd, as in a sheer maxi skirt, you are set to gain the glance of every man and woman in the room. And paired with a killer figure like model Abbey Lee Kershaw who has been spotted embracing the trend, the looks will be nothing but envious. The beautiful model has been seen rocking the look in a Free People’s black sheer skirt, in which the front pleats are reminiscent somewhat of the Henry Holland suspender tights that have been popular this fall. Chloé sent their models down the runway in black and nude sheer tulle skirts, while Dolce and Gabbana took the trend a step further by creating a sheer white vintage-style dress.

Antique Lace
Lace is about to get a makeover, as we say goodbye to the current thin stretch lace trend and say hello to lace that is reminiscent of traditional bobbin patterns. Style icons Sarah Jessica Parker and Kelly Ripa have both been spotted in Stella McCartney’s SS11 nude lace dress, which means that every fashion-lover should be aware of this look. A personal favourite of the take on this trend is from Valentino’s Haute Couture collection, which sees model of the moment Natasha Poly sporting an exquisite black lace dress with bow backing for September 2010′s Numero magazine. Lace is always the first pick when it comes to creating an elegant look, and with antique-styled lacing soon to hit our wardrobes, it means we can have a less delicate take on the trend too.

Cat Eye Sunglasses
It’s time to revisit the 1950s as the infamous cat-eye sunglasses return to our must-have lists. Prada hinted at the trend in fall, but Spring/Summer sees the true launch of the look. Giles Deacon took the retro look to an extremity by featuring stark red shades in his collection, which was accessorised by silver glitter make-up above the eyebrows to bring even more accentuation to the sunglasses. Dior also showcased blood-red glasses, while Jeremy Scott offset pure white clothing with pure black cat eye sunglasses, which created a visually-compelling contrast. Paul Smith took the trend to a more subtle level, providing a more wearable version of the frame. In terms of face shape, few can really pull this look off, but diamond or square face types should opt for a round-edge frame while those with a more round face will find sharper edges to be the most flattering.

High-Heeled Clogs
It is very rare to write that clogs are set to become a trend, but with such stylish brands as Chanel and Louis Vuitton embracing the shoe, it would be foolish to miss them out. Chanel made-over the shoe by embellishing them with jewels, placed on muted linen, with a wooden heel and studded sole, adding a modern twist to the shoe that has Marmite values; it is either loved or hated. Louis Vuitton modernised the clog even further by cutting down the clog-ness of a clog, and instead replacing the heel with a sleek kitten heel, and accessorising the shoe with a tassel decoration. With clogs it can be easy to get them wrong, but with these huge design houses behind the trend, it is more than likely that designers will be pushed to create much more luxurious versions of the clog, and in doing so revamping the shoe to a much more fashion-must-have level.
