We have recently discovered Michael Cinco and are going crazy after his majestic designs. A Dubai-based haute couture wedding and ball gown designer, Cinco creates works of art with fabrics. His dresses take embellishment to another level, they can almost be described as an explosion of Swarovski crystals, beads and feathers. Old Hollywood glamour defines the ethos behind each dress, while awe-inspiring meets the reaction to the designs. It is no wonder he has a following of celebrity and diva clientele, as the dresses truly are stage-stealing. His dresses have not only appeared on the back of Angel Locsin who was nominated for Best Actress at the Emmy’s, but he hit the headlines with his embellished noir ball gown for Anne Curtis at the Star Magic Ball. Manically inspired by Hollywood black and white classics, Cinco hopes to inject a dose of glitz into the woman he designs for, and give his icons John Galliano and McQueen a run for their money. It is easy to see why Michael Cinco is the world’s greatest wedding dress designer and coveted evening wear designer. -Isabella Stockwell
HM: Your dresses are visions, beautiful and spectacular, how do you gain inspiration for your designs?
MC: Beauty is its own excuse for being..like fish to water, I get a surge of inspirations from beautiful, spectacular surroundings…i get inspirations from my dreams…from the movies, museums, books, paintings, fashion history, unique cultures, people on the streets. Basically i am inspired from everything that surrounds me with beauty.
HM: In essence, how would you describe yourself as a designer and the designs you create?
MC: I believe my design sensibility is neo-classicism with an edge. I design classic clothes with a modern, edgier feel. I design for modern women who are confident , daring and are not afraid to experiment different style in fashion.
HM: I have heard of your love for black and white films, if you could have designed the outfits for any one black and white film, which would it be, and what would the outfit look like?
MC: It must be Greta Garbo’s Anna Karenina..the best hour-glass fitting clothes to match the best performance of her life…I would also love to create the costumes in My Fair Lady that’s the only movie that i watched a hundred times…my dream is to recreate the outfit worn by Audrey Hepburn in the Ascot Races and the beautiful gown she wore in the Embassy Ball in the movie.
HM: If you could design for Audrey Hepburn, what would the dress look like and be made of?
MC: There is a scene from Audrey Hepburn’s movie My Fair Lady where she is going to attend the Embassy Ball and she descended from the staircase where she looked like a princess wearing a very beautiful ball gown by Givenchy…It has been always my dream to create a more fabulous version of that dress…i still remember that scene from my childhood until now and for me that’s the ultimate fashion moment of all time.
HM: How would you describe the Michael Cinco woman? How do you imagine her feeling in your dresses?
MC: The Michael Cinco woman is tastefully done. She is a woman in her own terms. She is moneyed and she knows exactly what she wants. She may not be born into royalty but she better be married into one…
HM: If you could collaborate with any designer, who would it be?
MC: Alexander McQueen. Just so he would feel professionally threatened and would have decided to live on and on..
HM: What are you currently working on?
MC: I am primarily working on my royal clients orders and right now im in the production of a fabulous wedding dress for a very important celebrity client in the US…on the side, working on something i have actually sworn to secrecy…
HM: If you were to move from Dubai, where would it be?
MC: Paris, perhaps, with a Dubai clientele.
HM: How would you describe your personal style?
MC: Stylish…classic yet trendy.
HM: When you design a dress, what do you invsion the wearer to feel when they wear it?
MC: To be fabulous…
